About Me
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Zuhra is the first daughter of parents who immigrated from Somalia in the early-nineties. Her upbringing was immersed in one of the most diverse Canadian cities, enriched with culture, art and various ethnic backgrounds. Zuhra’s perspective in Toronto has led to the inspiration and pursuit of diversity and representation across Canadian media. Now based in Ottawa, Zuhra is in her graduating year at Carleton University completing her Masters of Journalism. She graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor’s in Media Studies and Communications and during her time at Brock. Her work has appeared in the Ottawa Citizen, CKCU FM Radio on a show called Midweek and Capital Current. She has been awarded the Broke Forbes Award upon joining the Globe and Mail: The Decibel Podcast, where she will be interning. Now focused on audio-visual storytelling, Zuhra is currently working on an audio documentary focused on climate change and climate displacement. In her free time she enjoys hiking, traveling and exploring local cafes.
